DESCRIPTION: A carved ivory figure of the Chinese god of longevity, Shou Lao (or Shou-xing), depicted as an old man with a long white beard. His distinguishing feature is his very high, bald forehead as a symbol of knowledge. He holds a gnarled staff with his right hand and in his left, the peach of immortality, also a symbol of longevity. This piece dates from the early 20th C. (1900 – 1930), comes with a small circular stand, and is in good condition with a few hairline age fissures
